Southern California Chapter (SO-CAL)

Welcome to the Southern California chapter of the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women (NACOPRW). We are a diverse group of women representing the Boricua Diaspora in California. We would like to announce that Dra. Marisol Rexach is the new present of our chapter.

A Message from Southern California Chapter President

Aside from the laughter, music, and friendship, this group of professionals work hard to make a difference. This small group of women collaborate to mentor and empower young Latinas. After all, they are our legacy. Several events have accomplished this. "De Mujer a Mujercita," an annual event for young girls and their mothers, has vividly changed the trajectory of young women's lives in Southern California. What a proud moment this past year when a young doctoral student shared her story of a time when she was a mujercita! She credits NACOPRW mentors and takes seriously her role in paying it forward. She recognizes the power of mentoring; it has been modeled by the women in our organization.

Members have found creative ways to raise scholarship funds, and we were proud to have awarded two scholarships this past year. Whether fundraising, cooking, or singing bomba at our annual parranda, NACOPRW women are involved with causes that matter. One member has organized "Latinas for the Cure" to benefit the Susan B. Komen Foundation.

Another member translates her passion into dedication for raising funds and awareness for the leukemia lymphoma society's "Light the Night" campaign. Mentors are all around us. Sustaining NACOPRW's legacy is important to each of us; it reminds us that we stand on the shoulders of other Puerto Rican women who have influenced us. It reminds us that NACOPRW So-Cal women have a history of mentorship to empower, inspire, and strengthen Latinas around us.

Respectfully yours,
Marisol Rexach, Ph.D.
